Arnold Schoenberg: Gurre-Lieder
Part of the Musica non grata project, Arnold Schoenberg's monumental, late-romantic composition Gurre-Lieder, a story based on a medieval Danish saga of love, jealousy, murder and the eternal cycle of nature "which upon every dawn blows away misfortune and death", will return to the State Opera in Prague after 102 years. Over 200 musicians on stage – two orchestras, two choirs and six top Czech and international soloists, including Swedish tenor Michael Weinius and Grammy Award winner Dietrich Henschel –, will perform under the baton of Czech Radio Symphony Orchestra and Norwegian Radio Orchestra chief conductor Petr Popelka. A co-production between the National Theatre Opera and the State Opera, Musica non grata, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra and Norwegian Radio Orchestra within the celebrations of the centenary of Czech Radio. Performed in the German original, with Czech surtitles.
