Eliáš Dolejší: Obyčejné myšlenky
Pragovka Gallery invites you to the opening of the exhibition Eliáš Dolejší: Common Thoughts. The curator of the exhibition is Magdalena Shnitzerová. The opening of the exhibition will take place together with other exhibitions of the third exhibition block of the series Ascents of Intimacy on Friday, 18 September 2021 at 6pm as a part of the Zažít Pragovku Jinak.
Eliáš Dolejší graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, Abstract Sculpture II atelier of Jindřich Zeithammel. In 2010, while still studying, Eliáš won the Atelier Award and then, in 2011, he won the Josef Hlávka Award. He likes working with wood and paper in combination with sheet metal. The combination of these materials highlights the fragility, instability, and lightness of form – typical Eliáš’s symbolism. The object, called the “Infinity”, dominates the exhibition. Eliáš embodies the quadrature of the circle through this object, a symbolic union of spirit and body, infinite movement and finiteness of man. Infinity and other objects reveal the endless sequence of common thoughts locked in human minds.
The exhibition block Výstupy intimity is part of the year-long theme The Quiet Power of Uncool Being. Turning inward, towards the essence of artistic practice as an answer to the state of the planet and the ways we, as humanity, treat nature in the long term. The exhibit also reacts to societal othering, which falls under the topic of The Quiet Power of Uncool Being, caused by various factors - geographical distance from the centre, different life experiences, or variant ways of perceiving and living our lives.
