Gerhard Richter opened the doors of his studio to director Corinne Belz during painting a series of abstract paintings in the spring and summer of 2009. In highly concentrated shots, the film draws us into a very personal creative process. We can see Gerhard Richter painting, watching his paintings, overworkig, and sometimes ruining and starting from the beginning. The view of the canvas varies; the protagonists of the film become pictures themselves. Gerhard Richter Painting is a portrait of an artist at work and a fascinating film about the ability to see.

For Prisma, director Hannes Reinhardt accompanied Gerhard Richter in 1969 when painting a canvas called "Ruhrtalbrücke (228)". Richter was 37 years old. Reinhardt captured the process from the photograph to the completion of the work in the studio in time. Reinhard also gives the film a dramatic frame that reminds the western genre.
