Písně s vůní Moravy
SONGS WITH MORAVIAN SCENT
SIBERA & HROCHOVÁ & HOLUB & DUŠEK
In 1875, Antonín Dvořák began composing the first of his Moravian Duets to folk poetry. Although he originally intended only to adapt folk songs, in the end he used only Moravian folk texts and set them to music in his own original way. The first non-public performance of these duets took place in the home environment of the wholesaler and patron Jan Neff. And their success inspired Dvořák to compose others. The first four are for soprano and tenor with piano, the others for soprano and alto. Usually only a selection of the best known are performed in concert. But at our concert you will hear all 23 performed by soprano Jana Sibera, mezzo-soprano Jana Hrochová and tenor Ondřej Holub.
But since Moravian folk poetry did not only inspire Dvořák, we will supplement his duets with virtually unknown songs by Antonín Tučapský and Miloslav Kabeláč. Last but not least, we will hear one of the most impressive Czech song cycles of the 20th century, Ej, srdenko moje by Klement Slavický.
