Marc-Antoine Charpentier and André Campra were among the composer who had the greatest influence over French opera between Lully and Rameau. They also left an enormous legacy in the field of sacred music. While Charpentier, a pupil of Giacomo Carissimi, and Sébastien de Brossard exhibit clear Italian influences in their music, André Campra was a successor to the aesthetic ideals of Jean-Baptiste Lully.
