We have prepared episode two of the Age of No Heroes exhibition series for the Pop-Up gallery. The main motive of this exhibition is the tension between everyday experiences and great romantic imaginations about changing the world. Between the private and the public. Between the intimate and the society-wide. The exhibition consists of several object pictures that have the aesthetics inspired by white flags or drapery of baroque sculptural groups. The pictures introduce the traces of destruction process, motionless wind monuments stopped in time. They are part of the reminder of something great, revolutionary and fundamental, just as they can be used as curtains on the window of your apartment on which the gentle summer wind blew. At the same time, the pictures strikingly remind us of the paper hangings on the walls of that apartment. The pictures are of a gentle, flowery design, representing the idealized arrangement of nature, stopped at the most interesting moment of their bloom. Flower ornaments, inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement, are intertwined with views of the setting sun. We are interested in harmony, disharmony, and mutual influence of the two
inner and outer worlds – the one that is presented on the outside, and the one that we protect and that is only ours. Therefore, the architectural division of the exhibition is also important to us. The wall in the middle of the gallery divides the space into two – one emphasizes the cleanness of the gallery space, and the other one creates a staged warehouse. Both spaces’ purpose is to exhibit pictures. However, one space seems representative, the other space does not hide its extemporaneousness and backstage-like impression where you, as visitors, are, of course, not allowed. Those two units are connected by narrow passages leading around the central column of the gallery. Thus, the installation of the wall makes the original architecture of the exhibition space stand out, the wall honours it, and so the wall becomes part of it.

Filip Dvořák (1990*) and Martin Kolarov (1993*) both graduated from Painting atelier of Jiří Černický and Marek Meduna at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. They are not officially teamed up. Each has their own artistic practice, while their topics and forms meet at certain points. Both artists work mainly with video, painting, object, and with combinations of these media. They often play with the interpretation of history and its updating in their works. They take historical elements and modify them into fictional compositions. Pathetic symbolism combined with modern designs, heroes’ determination, current aestheticism, and the public combined with the private – it all can be found in their compositions. The artists are currently developing two long-term serial lines, in which the individual episodes follow and are inspired by each other freely. In one serial line – Age of no Heroes – Filip and Martin reflect common interest in history, various materials, and emphasis on experiencing everyday life and at the same time great romantic themes. The second serial line – Awkward Handshake – is focused mainly on coworking and visual manipulation of the works created by other authors who work mainly with the medium of painting and
drawing.
