Juna is a band from Kazan, capital of the republic of Tatarstan in Russia, that performs atmospheric indie-folk in Tatar language. Juna’s Emanet is the first full-format album based on the Tatar poetry of the 20^th and 21^st centuries. The references are easily recognizable: neo-folk, Marissa Nadler, CocoRosie, but it doesn’t feel like a copy of anything in the West, more like a thoughtful re-approach and adaption for the local environment.
