Gustav Brom Big Band

Gustav Brom Big Band

The orchestra, founded by Gustav Brom (Frkal), began its professional career with its first event in the Radhošť hotel in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm in June 1940. Probably nobody at the time expected the band to continue playing until the decease of its founder in September 1995. The band achieved world renown status already during its early existence. According to many American experts, the orchestra ranked among the top 10 big bands of the world in the 1960s. The greatest stars of jazz and pop performed as guests with the band – Maynard Fergusson, Dizzy Gilespie, Dianna Ross and The Supremes, Ray Conniff, Ben Cramer, VOX, Bill Ramsey and many others…

Under the baton of conductor Vlado Valovič, the band continues to spread the fame and glory of the name Gustav Brom. This year the orchestra celebrates the 75th anniversary of its founding. Many talented musicians have been members of the band during its long and rich history and even today, new breed of talented players becomes integral. New players that gain valuable experience and keep the youthful spirit of the orchestra. As such, fresh and modern arrangments appear and the repertoir keeps evolving. And that is the future of Gustav Brom Big Band. It continues to look for new talent and new challenges as it fulfills its role as the flagship of Czech and Slovakian popular music, especially now that it has become the resident of the Czech radio for the period 2013
