Francis I Emperor Memorial or Kranner’s Fountain (also referred to as the Tribute of Czech Estates) is a neo-gothic monument set in the National Awakening Park on Smetana Embankment in the Old Town.
The idea of building a memorial to the Emperor came up as early as 1835. In 1845 the foundation stone was laid, however, also due to the revolutionary events in the years 1848 and 1849, the Memorial was finished no sooner than 1850.
The neo-gothic fountain was unveiled on 30th May 1850 in a small park on Smetana Embankment (designed by Vojtech Lanna). The authors of the Memorial are architect Josef Kranner (also a co-creator of a part of St Vitus Cathedral) and sculptor Josef Max.
