The aim of the exhibition is to introduce contemporary Slovak art. The exhibition takes place on the occassion of celebrations of Czechoslovakia’s centenary. Slovak artists use critical and analytical approaches when reflecting contemporary form and specifics. Despite globalisation trend artists prefer local features. The main themes of this exhibition are Tatra Mountains and „Tatrmans“. On the one hand, visitors can admire mountains and symbolically Slovak nature. On the other hand, exhibition presents an ironic, humorous and sarcasitc view of current affairs through a stance of a comedian, buffoon – simply a „Tatrman“. Pieces of work by Jan Vasilka depict stylized and geometric peaks on which sculptures and deconstructive schemes are floating. What follows are giant sculptural masses with marked alpine routes by Štefan Papčo. Verticals by Marek Kvetan construe a need to accumulate possessions. Within this perspective, you can see a pile of chairs standing on top of each other and a column made of Sunday festive plates ((Big Plaes, 2016). The ladder by Stano Masár depicts how far one can get on a social ladder. A hovering stone in a metal frame represents mountainous Slovak landscape. A “dead” mouflon’s head hanging upside down (depicting a hunting trophy) enriches the exhibition together with a photographic collage by Lucia Tallová that pictures landscape and people supplemented by stones, moss and acryl (More 2015, Black series 2016-7).. Stano Masár comments on mutual relations between Czech and Slovak art in his interactive installation „CS Art Today“. It is a series of 100 pictograms by contemporary Czech and Slovak artists M. Adamčiak, Z.Baladrán, M. Zet, J. Želibská. Visitors can create their own black and white collection of 30 best works on a magnetic board. Erik Binder introduces a more global and critical view of contemporary Slovakia in his installation made of warning triangles with a bent double cross. Moreover, Binder created a performative video showing a constant tire wandering and searching for a way (Pneumatrix 2016). Canvas by Michal Černušák oversees the whole exhibition from above. The canvas depicts former socialistic housing estates drowned by past where at the same time developers come into play. The purpose of rebuilding is to completely change the housing estate appearance. They will leave no stone unturned. Exhibition Curator: Vladimír Beskid Exhibiting Artists: Erik Binder Michal Černušák Marek Kvetan Jaroslav Kyša Stano Masár Štefan Papčo Lucia Tallová Ján Vasilko The exhibition takes places in cooperation with the Slovak Institute in Prague and the Czech Centre in Bratislava.
