You are kindly invited to the opening of "Last Year in Marienbad: A Film as Art" exhibition on Wednesday 7 September 2016 at 18.00 in the great court of Rudolfinum. The exhibition “Last Year in Marienbad: a Film as Art“ is inspired by the eponymous movie by Alain Resnais from 1961 and presents artworks of the classical modernists, who inspired the film itself, as well as works by contemporary artists referencing the movie. The film Last Year in Marienbad became one of the most cited classics of post-war cinematography. Its visual beauty and sophistication inspired numerous directors and visual artists, photographers, fashion designers and musicians equally. The exhibition “Last Year in Marienbad“ for the first time explores the creative dialogue between film and visual arts and presents international and contemporary works of art that deal with dismantling of the traditional progression of time, place and film plot. Among them belong for example Cindy Sherman, Gerhard Richter, Jeff Koons, Vanessa Beecroft and Ján Mančuška. The exhibition also brings together an extraordinary set of artworks from the classical modernists such as Alberto Giacommeti, Giorgio de Chirico and René Magritte, with whom the film shares the avant-garde aesthetics. The exhibition runs until 27 November 2016.
