Ballettissimo

Ballettissimo

The mixed bill is made up of ballet works by distinguished European choreographers. Uwe Scholz, an outstanding German creator with a refined style, dubbed the “European Balanchine”, who until his untimely death worked in Leipzig and whose opuses have become an integral part of all the top-notch ballet companies’ repertoire owing to their unique, sophisticated innovative technique in his abstractly conceived works; Jacopo Godani, an acclaimed young Italian choreographer who will create a brandnew work for the Czech National Ballet; and Petr Zuska, a renowned Czech choreographer and Artistic Director of the Czech National Ballet.

Created for and premiered at EXPO 2010 inShanghai, Zuska’s choreography is a pure visualisation of Gustav Mahler’s celebrated Symphony No. 1 inD major ingeniously applying the neo-classical phraseology. Characteristic of the choreography is the continuous fluidity of the moving dancers, an unceasing flux of bodies, carried by music in the same direction. Zuska afforded his choreography an infinitely variable and dramatic tension.
