Christian Marclay is often considered as one of the ten most important artists working today. His work 'The Clock', awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale, has been described as a masterpiece of our times and the ultimate digital mosaic. Marclay, whose work explores connections between sound, noise, photography, video, and film, is a pioneer in using turntables as a musical instrument. He has recently had exhibitions at New York's MOMA, The Whitney and London's White Cube. This unique international project brings to Brno three Czech premieres of his sound works, which will be performed by his long-term and regular collaborators – NY guitarist and lynchpin of the Downtown Scene Elliott Sharp, well known for his connection to the Czech underground (he performed at the concert for Ivan ‘Magor’ Jirous), Swiss trombonist Roland Dahinden, guest with musicians including Miles Davis and Anthony Braxton, and Anglo-Dutch bass clarinettist Gareth Davis with collaborations ranging from the Japanese noise artist Merzbow, through Bjork, Dutch punk band The Ex and Tom Waits. Programme connects space, sound and the visual: Graffiti Composition Shuffle To Be Continued Sylva Sylvarum The evening is accompanied by a short discussion. The project is co-organised by the gallery Dum umeni mesta Brna.
