Wagner–Korngold–Zemlinsky
The State Opera Orchestra concert will feature three mature works by composers who had links to Prague. The Overture to Richard Wagner´s opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg will be followed by the Lyric Symphony, Alexander Zemlinsky´s bestknown work, which received its premiere in Prague in June 1924, with the composer himself conducting. A pupil of Zemlinsky, Erich Wolfgang Korngold was for years far more renowned for his Oscar-winning scores for Hollywood movies than as a European classical music composer. His Violin Concerto in D major, premiered in 1947, employing a number of motifs from his film soundtracks, has enjoyed great popularity among violinists worldwide.
