Jiři, don’t be so shy! “Taking the roundabout route is a strategy of a shy man; an unassuming man has the ability to divert attention away from the centre and focus on peripheral details. The same may be said about the works of Jiři Kovanda, which evoke emotions thanks to subtle hints, thanks to metonymy, when less serves to express more, when a part applies to the whole, but, ultimately to much more when it comes to intensity.

Kovanda's "less is more" is no manifesto declaration, but a principle of the economy of values when modesty and pragmatism are paradoxical vehicles of emotion and desire. Shyness, moreover, leads to constant overstepping of one's own inhibitions to find the courage to exhibit publicly one's own phantasma. This talk will act as an interpretation of the work of Jiři Kovanda through the notions of shyness and eroticism.”

François Piron François Piron (1972) byl minulosti součástí několika nezávislých institucí v Paříži, včetně Laboratoires d’Aubervilliers (2000–2006) a uměleckého prostoru castillo/corrales (2007–2015). Řídí nakladatelství Paraguay, kde byl dosud editorem několika knih o umělcích (Joe Scanlan, Dora Garcia a Dimitrije Bacicevic Mangelos). Zároveň vede postgraduální program na Akademii výtvarných umění v Lyonu, kde od roku 2002 přednáší dějiny a teorii umění, a je hlavním kurátorem pátého Bienále současného umění, probíhajícího v září 2016 v Rennes.
